Description

This dress was purchased from Le Louvre when it operated at the Paris end of Collins Street in Melbourne. It is made essentially of silver leather and lace and was made at Le Louvre, under the supervision of the owner Georgina Weir, and is a size 12. I purchased it for my wife, at the time, and it had its inaurgural wearing in 1992 at the restaurant Jamin in Paris, which holds the rare distinction of receiving three Michelin stars in the first three years of existence and which, in 1984, was named “Best Restaurant in the World” by the International Herald Tribune. It was run by Joël Robuchon who, in 1989, the prestigious restaurant guide Gault Millau named the ”Chef of the Century”. He has been described as the most influential French chef of the post-nouvelle cuisine era and since the mid-1980s, he has been called the "primus inter pares"( a first among equals) of Paris' three star chefs for his work both at Jamin and at his eponymous restaurant. (These extracts are taken fron Wikipedia) It was a wonderful evening and, when, on leaving, we asked where we could see the Eiffel Tower from that part of Paris, we were directed down the street. On arriving at the stated location and standing on a concourse, to our disappointment, all that we could see were the city lights in the distance and no Eiffel Tower. When, to our amazement, the Eiffel Tower started to light up, going from the bottom right up to the top, as if we had thrown a light switch - and this was at about midnight on a Parisian weekday evening!! It was unbelievable and unforgettable.
